Teagan Grant: Age old question: Mac or PC

teaganannegrant:

So the top two selling phones in America, the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS aren’t ‘cool’ according to competitor HTC America’s president Martin Fichter.

I think the fact that they are the top two selling phones in America make a bold statement that people like the phone, but I don’t think his…

COMMENT: Sounds like the words of a sore loser really. If this Fitcher guy can’t come up with a better argument then, “iPhones are so not cool man” then he is absolutely kidding himself! And if he wants to have any chance at being taken seriously by the public he needs to put forward some more concrete evidence of the ‘uncoolness’ of iPhones.

I recently watched the launch of the iPad 2 for an assignment, and Steve Jobs CEO of Apple didn’t need to make any stupid schoolyard remarks trying to insult the opposition. He spoke facts like the first iPad held over 90% over the tablet PC market share, the app-store has over 300,000 apps with its closest competitor only offering around 100.

So Mr Fitcher, if you want to take Windows back to the top maybe consult your communications specialists before making such childish statements.

And if you haven’t already guessed, I’m a Mac man.

And the man of the match goes to….

Is there anything in the world that will be left to its purest form, the way that it was invented, or does everything in the world now have to come with the warning sticker ‘new and improved with technology’. Technology is now being further embedded into everything we do and beloved sports are no different. Viewer’s of the Rugby World Cup are now being given the ability to vote on who they think should be man of the match in each game, but is this the best move by the IRB?

In one light, to incorporate the viewers in any way that will enhance their viewing pleasure or to make them more likely to watch your program is a fantastic strategy to implement. But should decisions such as who was best on ground be left up to the public, and should these decisions be left to the professional’s reporting/viewing the match. If people with little professional knowledge of the sport start voting we could see Justin Bieber’s name on the next man of the match trophy.

But I think it doesn’t matter, if this encourages more people to watch the competition then I think it is a great idea and the players on the field doing a good job will receive the deserved recognition from his/her immediate superiors. Who cares if the good-looking bloke standing on the wing that didn’t touch the ball all game becomes $5000 richer each game, it’s a good strategy and other sports should look into implementing something similar.

Max is well smart at PRing: I swear! It was the ball's fault!

maxiswellsmart:

England Rugby star Jonny Wilkinson’s worst kicking display ever on the weekend has forced World Cup officials to release a statement to the press defending the quality of this year’s ball the ‘Virtuo’ and its manufacturer ‘Gilbert.’

I find it quite outrageous that the integrity of the Rugby…

COMMENTS: I have to agree with the statements made in this blog, do stories such as these really have a place in our media feeds? Surely there are more pressing issues that need attention in the world. But unfortunately as long as society continues to idolize the world’s athletes these sorts of stories will take centre stage in our news. Look no further then the way that sport is embedded into the Australian culture, and the platform that it gives the athletes to influence mass amounts of people within our society. Rugby League players can get into as many drunken fights as they want but we will still think their heroes for scoring the winning try.

I think it is inevitable that there will always be a minority of athletes and well-known figures that do and say ridiculous things without thinking about the implications that it poses for an organisation. The World Cup Officials handled it in a timely and effective manner, other organisations need to implement similar strategies to ensure their name isn’t tarnished by such actions.

Oh, and of course it was the balls fault, Johnny Wilkinson is the best kicker in the world, duh!

NOTW, enough said.

In News Corporation’s annual report released a few days ago, the chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch describes the phone hacking scandal as “a major black eye” for News Corporation. Although he remains optimistic stating he can “put things right”, explaining that News Corp is continuing to co-operate with “the relevant authorities in both the UK and the US”. He also stated that “the behaviour carried out by some employees of News of the World is unacceptable and does not represent who we are as a company. It went against everything that I stand for.”

As the scandals that faced News Corporation months ago slip further and further down our news feeds, is it time to recognize that we can’t defeat such a large entity no matter how harsh the allegations are? In the opinion of Mr Murdoch he is “optimistic about the future because I believe that News Corporation… will continue to shape it.” Or are the statements above a display of arrogance, statements written by spin-doctors telling him what to say to make the public not realize these issues are getting swept under the mat?

In my opinion the allegations against News Corp have left it tarnished beyond repair, and that “major black eye” as Murdoch put it, is more like an infectious cancer that is slowly but surely bringing down one of the largest corporations in the world.

Someone help these poor people!

I was flicking through some websites and I came across a shocking article on a sweeping epidemic taking over the globe, it’s called the ‘Angry Birds addiction’. It’s horrible I know but don’t panic, it’s a highly contagious but easily prevented condition, all you have to do is STOP WASTING SO MUCH TIME PLAYING GAMES ON YOUR F#@*ING PHONE!!!

The amount of people playing this game is crazy, here are some stats:

·      16 years of Angry Birds are played every hour

·      Over 100 million Angry Birds have been hurled in the game - the same amount of real birds that live on earth

·      Angry Birds has been downloaded over 300 million times and is estimated to break 1 billion.

I think it is quite sad that all this time is spent on a stupid game when we all could be out fixing the worlds issues, but what can we do about? If the trend continues, in a few short years we will exist simply as an extension of the lounge room couch where our brilliant super smart phones will explore the world for us.

We all know the importance technology is going to have in the future, it is something that everyday gets further embedded into our lives but it is statistics like the ones above that put it all into perspective. Technology along with the role social media is now playing in society is having a growing impact on everything we do, and in particular as an aspiring PR practitioner I recognize the great importance in keeping on top of such mediums.

K-Rudd for PM!!!

It seems that our embattled Prime Minister can’t get a break with a recent poll showing that the Labor Party would win the next election if Kevin Rudd was reinstated in the top job. The poll comes after Julie Gillard revived her support of the recently rejected Malaysian Aslyum Seeker Deal.

The Labor government is proposing 800 asylum seekers will be sent to Malaysia in exchange for 4,000 refugees that will come to Australia. The whole immigration debate is such a sticky topic, on one hand you have criminals smuggling people illegally into our country and on the other you have people who are trying to escape death in their war ridden countries, and at the moment I’m unsure on where I sit.

I recently watched the SBS show, ‘Go Back From Where You Came From’ and since then my view on the asylum seeker issue has been altered. The refugees on this show tell stories of death, rape and poverty in their homelands and how they risk their own lives aswell as their families in search of something better, and their picture of something better I’m sure wasn’t a detention centre in Malaysia (not to say that our detention centres are 5 star or anything). Not only that, it is tax payers money that is being used to fund this whole operation. I don’t feel comfortable in having my taxes contribute to these people experiencing some of the poorest living conditions available. I’m not saying I have a solution but surely there is a better way, and I hope Ms Gillard finds it soon because at the moment she has lost my vote!
